Not far in the future, this wouldn’t be a dream anymore. Your gadgets will have wireless power, which means you don’t have to have a cable to deliver the power from the power source to it.
This is the new good news brought to us by the US researchers, which currently they’ve achieved only about 40% of the efficiency of this wireless power. They’ve demonstrated the experiment, using wire coils for both the transmitter and receiver.
They had the transmitter attached to the power source and the receiver attached to a bulb, which was 2m away from the transmitter, and there was no physical connection at all between them. When the power switched on, the bulb lit up. The concept behind is making use of “resonance”, i.e to get two objects vibrating at the same frequency, which they can then exchange energy between them without affecting the objects surrounding them.
As mentioned, they’ve got only 40% of the effiency, meaning 60% is the loss and they still have lots of work to catch up with to make it solid. Of course, once this thing gets materialized, I foresee there would be some kind of “resonance” channels need to be well-defined to avoid any collision that could possibly bring fatal effect, such as explosion, among gadgets.
