The Phidgets USB sensor kit is the package that comes with numerous sensors, which you can then assemble it up and plug it to your PC’s USB port. You can then make use of it to minitor quite a number of evironmental factors, such as the temperature, motion, light, magnetic field, vibration etc. Basically, it’s not a ready-to-go product. This package needs some assembling work and also need some kind of higher level software application to be developed, which this software application can be then installed on any PC, which the sensor inteface kit is connected, for monitoring your environment. I think to make it to work for you, the assembling work involves connecting those various analog sensors (picture 2), switches or LEDs that come with it to the interface kid (picture 1), then plug it to your PC’s USB port. And you’ll then need to download the software library and a sample program from www.phidgets.com, then make a simple software application based on Visual Basic language that you can then install on a PC to interact and operate the sensor kit. If you like some simple D.I.Y and low-budget solution for monitoring your environment, such as you’ve been asked by your boss to produce solution for monitoring several environmental factors of your office or computer server room, then this would be a pretty good package for you to jump start.
