So Microsoft and SanDisk are working on some kind of smart drives, which is to replace SanDisk’s U3 eventually. The kind of smart drive is considered the next generaion of USB flash drives or memory that expands on the current SanDisk’s U3 capability. It is both the technology of software and hardware that allows you to transfer and store your “personal computing environment” onto a flash drive that you can carry around and have it launched at any USB-capable PC/laptop to continue your work. The “personal computing environment” here refers to personal interfaces, personal Windows applications, including Web browsers, e-mail programs, multimedia apps and productivity tools. And this “personal computing environment” launched on another PC, which you plugged in the smart drive, will not leave behind any trace on that PC. This simply sounds familiar to me, which seems to work similarly with the Mojopac that we’ve seen a few months ago. On top of this, of course there is added security, i.e TrustedFlash, which is claimed to be able to protect user files with personal information from malware on public or shared computers. The team-up is Microsoft will take care of the software, whereas SanDisk is providing the hardware.
