The word “termite” really sounds scary to homeowners. The usual way of termite control that we’ve seen are simply getting your pest controlers (human) to drill several holes around your house area and spray pesticides into it to kill the termites. This method perhaps is not that effective, as once termites spread, they will be at every corner of your house.
The usual way which your pest controllers do, will not be able to kill termites up to the root. Termicam has a pretty unique way of doing it, which is pretty interesting for us, who like gadgetry stuff and robots to take note. Termicam is working on a very tiny robot, the Temibot, which carries video and thermal imaging cameras and they can dive into every corner of your house or office building, where human pest controllers can’t go.
This kind of tiny robot is remote controlled, it carries a video camera and lights so the operator can steer it to its way to dive into every corner and confined spaces of the building. It can go over on a fairly good angle and right itself if necessary. Once a termite hotspot is detected, the Termibot will break the nest of the termites.
The operator can see from the transmitted video and then operate Termibot to inject pest control poisons into the nest. The Termibot is currently still a prototype, which controlled via a long cable. Of course, the one comes to the market later will be fully remote. It’s expected that Termibot to be released this year.

Actually, Termibot is not only restricted to killing termites. According to the creator, Rice, they’ve already had a few enquiries regarding its use in some other areas, such as it could be used as air-con duct cleaner and some other applications such as sewage and water tunnel investigations, electrical equipment testing, military and bomb disposal applications etc.

[...] Sounds cool! Having gadgets made out of wood. This is what the Japanese company, MARUBENI INFOTEC, has shown us couple of its products made out of wood. The range includes computer peripherals such as keyboard, USB memory, card reader, and USB hub. One thing I’m concerned about these wood-made gadgets is if they could stand the test of termites. Of course, this issue needs to leave it to the owner on how they could effectively get termites out of their living environment. More pictures and info after the jump! [...]

[...] This tiny robot is being developed Sandia National Labs. It’s equipped with an 8K ROM processor, temperature sensor, miniature video cameras, microphones, and chemical micro-sensors all packed into its super tiny body. The power source is by three watch batteries. And the speed of traveling is 20 inches per minute. This micro-bot could be the smallest in the world, but the developer claims that they’re planning for developing smaller models. Anyway, this tiny piece reminds me the termibots that we’ve seen before, which are used to go to human-unreachable spots for fighting termites. [...]

I suppose it’s “cool” until you know what I found in my study. Vinegar kills termites. It’s, understatedly, cheaper than any termiticide. Safer. I also found it to be MUCH more effective. You don’t have to use it over and over again. Thanks for your time; I hope you’ll share the knowledge.
