Digg is down, as shown in the screen captured above. Digg is facing quite a big problem here, it has just shut itself down, dues to tons of posts getting on its front page about the HD-DVD hacked key story. I’ve just come across this story on OhGizmo, and I straight away jumped on Digg, but it was still looking ok, but only having its home page loaded with couple of stories titled with those funny “HEX” code. A few minutes later then I was looking for more information from other news source and got back to Digg again, it simply showed me the above attached screen. So, it’s taken itself down.

I didn’t follow much about the Digg story, I think it all happened that someone posted a link to a story about the hacked HD-DVD key. And the post included the title and the description of the cracked code and it managed to get to the frontpage due to thousands of diggs. According to several news site, Digg was getting a little bit coward and trying to bring the post down and also banned that user, as they didn’t wanna get sued by MPAA, as outlined in this blog post by CEO of Digg, Jay Adelson. And this resulted a massive revolt by the users on Digg. Users simply post tons of variances of the story about the cracked HD DVD AACS decryption key on Digg, till out of Digg’s control. Diggers simply think that Digg must be democratic enough to let Diggers’ post to get to its frontpage without censorship, as long as long as there’s no foul play to hit the front page. It was really a kind of massive attack to Digg, as Digg staff were trying to tackle and take those related posts down, but it’ll then flooded again with tons of the variances with thousands of votes (diggs) somemore. It’s really a big mess now, I just got back again to check out Digg, it’s got back to working, as shown in the picture above. But all in mess, loaded with those funny links that full of hex code, or posts titled with full of anger and complaints such as FCK DIGG, STOP DELETING POSTS & RESETING DIGGS, wiki has protection anger vs. 09 F9 11 02 9D 74 E3 5B D8 41 56 C5 63 56 88, Tonight We Dine in Hell (PIC), Even the Church Doesn’t Like the MPAA! etc… That is simply the riot of the Diggers against the Digg’s unfair censorship.

[...] I think everyone should be pretty familiar with the hot AACS “secret key”, which triggered user revolt on Digg. The story started, as someone posted a story on Digg about the secret key that could actually crack the HD-DVD AACS anti-copying system, but Digg took it down, then triggered the user revolt to get it back on. What else, it’s claimed to be illegal now for possessing or desseminating the secrey key, as AACS LA will be sending legal threat to those sites for holding it and even threatened Google to stop indexing those web pages that have the keys. When writing this post, I did have a pause, thinking if I shall host the picture on this blog here, which I found it on Boing-Boing. I didn’t know and didn’t pay much intention about the news that AACS LA would take actions on sites that show the keys. Anyway, I’ve already had two screenshots captured of Digg, which shows pretty clear of the secret numbers. According to Boing-Boing, there are about 368,000 pages contain the number, up from 3,600 yesterday. Someone, even more daring, had a tattoo on his hairy chest, as shown in the picture above. Goldcoaster got one that is pretty interesting too, the key on a t-shirt. So what? It’s now more than a third of a million indexed on Google, and it’s now everywhere over the Internet, lets see what the AACS LA can do about it! AACS claimed that the HD-DVD is unbreakable. Of course, if you break it, they’ll threaten too sue, that’s it! [...]
