I’m no big fan of Star Wars, perhaps it was because of I didn’t get much chances to watch the Star Wars during my childhood. I’ve noticed there have been quite a number of gadgets made into the shape of those famous figures in Star Wars. The most popular ones of course are the little R2D2. But anyway, it’s worth to record down at least one or two on this blog for any of you who are the big fans of Star Wars.
This time, it’s also an R2D2, which is actually a half scale of the one from the movie. It also has real sounds and lights as what is seen in the movie. Basically, this R2D2 gadget is a projector for both video and still images. It projects onto your wall up to 80 inches from corner to corner. It also comes with built-in DVD and CD players, so you can play your discs on it. There are also video and audio ports on it for you to hook up to any external players. It takes external memory cards and USB flash drives, so you can project any stuff directly on these portable memory storage. Of course, iPod is not left out on this R2D2, which you can find a docking station for any iPods that are 3rd generation or higher.
The R2D2 projector also comes with built-in 20W speakers and it shows some flexibility for projection such as its legs can be tilted backward to suit ceiling projection. Its body is loaded with various sensors, which gives it the capability to sense, so it’ll not topple over stuff, fall down the stairs and know to keep itself at least 1.5m away from the projection wall for best projection etc. Its remote control is also a scaled replica of another figure in Star War, Millennium Falcon (pictured above), which allows you to control all of R2D2’s movements as well as video and audio functions, and gives you full control over your iPod’s menu, which can also be projected. It’ll be made available in September, 2007, but with a pretty expensive price of $4,000.00. What do you think? It’s quite an intelligent projector, which works almost like the R2D2 robot as seen in the movie, Star Wars.

[...] I think we have a couple of guys here who love beer so much. So, you guys would be eager to know that there is a robot out there, which can pour beer for you and serve you like your best maid. The little robot is called Asahi Robocco BeerBot, looks pretty much like an R2D2, which can automatically open cans of your favorite beer then pour it into a mug and serve you. The robot’s belly works as a mini fridge that can store up to six cans of beer and it’ll dispense it into a mug, when you command it to serve you. This robot was initially available as part of a contest which the beer-maker ran in Japan. But it’s now available for selling all around the globe for just $799 plus another $99 for insured shipping. It comes with instructions both in English and Japanese. [...]
