It’s been quite some time that I haven’t looked at any digital camera. Since TechDigest has reviewed the the compact and colorful Fujiflim Z5fd, lets look at what they say about it.
Basically it’s a pretty slim and compact kind of camera, which comes with various choices for the colors. Besides, the standard silver, you’ll get mocha brown and raspberry red. The one shown in the pitcure is the raspery red, but of course someone will say it’s pink.
The “fd” in the code name of this camera means face detection - which means it’ll search out out people in images and ensure that they’re more in focus than the background when you hit the button. The picture of the mocha brown, good and bad sides, the overall specs, overview of its are available after the jump.
The good
- It’s quick to start up. Which you just slide back its lens cover then it’s ready to shoot for you in a couple of seconds. Despite its size is small, but ut boasts a 3x optical zoom.
- Its max res is 6.3 megapixel, which shots can be stretched to 2,848×2,136 pixels and come in at around 1.5MB at medium quality. Snaps are pleasing with realistic flesh tones and well defined colours.
- The face detection is quick, which you don’t have to wait when it’s assessing the scene, and it’s reasonably accurate when the subject is facing the lens.
The bad
- Easily cause stray finger to impose on your image composition due to its lens is too close to its left hand edge, which isn’t handy holding with two hands. It simply beeps too much, which will start beeping once you slide open the lens cover till every keypress you make. (Strange, like to make noise only? The keypress one sounds reasonable, perhaps, is to alert you that you’re actually pressing a key) But, luckily you can turn the sound off.
- It’s got an IR port for transmitting stuff wirelessly to other IR capable devices. But the TechDigest guy failed to transmit his Sony Ericsson phone that also IR capable. It said “communication error” each time.

Overall specs
Resolution: 6.3 megapixel
Zoom: 3x optical, 6.2x digital
Sensitivity: 100-1,600 ISO
Focal length: 6.1 - 18.3mm (Equivalent to 36 - 108 mm on a 35 mm camera)
Memory: 26MB internal, 16MB xD card
Dimensions: 93 x 55 x 19 mm
Weight: 148g (130g without card and battery)
Overview
It’s best for those who know point and shoot only, well, it’s actually aimed for this market. Other than this, TechDigest likes its face detection technology, simply because it’s accurate and fast. But they claimed that its price of £219.99 is a little too high for a 6.3 megapixel model.
