CubeWorld
If you loved Tamagotchi, then you should try CubeWorld. CubeWorld will give you more fun. By its own, it’s just a little cute, where a digital man lives inside. Each cube has motion sensors and buttons, which you can shake the little digital man or play games with it. But CubeWorld is not only limited to that. The real fun is the digital man will interact with one another once you’re connecting one cube to another. When two cubes are connected, you’ll see that one guy move into the next cube for a while. And then they’ll start interacting to each other, perhaps stepping into some intimacy…. The best fun is to observe how those digital men socializing to each other. ThinkGeek is selling it in sets of two for only $29.99, to let you feel the fun of the interaction of the little social creatures.

I have seen these in the shops (here in Australia) about a year ago. Seemed pretty cool but I haven’t seen any kids with them so I don’t think they were popular.
Last time I saw one on sale were in the bargain bins.

  2. Hako Robo, tinby robots that love and hate each other- by Gadget, shop online blog of TechChee.com Says:

[...] The Hako Robo are the kind of tiny robots where there will be some kind of social interaction among them when placed together. There are pretty interesting interaction among these little cube-shaped robots, such as they’ll follow each other around, run away from each other, protect each other, even pissed off and fed up with one another if they’re together for too long. The common set of these bots will make up of a mum, a pop and a little puppy. The kind of interaction simply reminds me the CubeWorld, where those little men can interact with one another. [...]

  3. levelHead- interactive videogame within the cubetastic virtual world!- by Gadget, shop online blog of TechChee.com Says:

[...] The idea of the game is you to guide the way out of a lost little cube man in the cubetastic world. Just a little tilt guides the cube man in the corresponding direction. The objective is to guide the poor little man to the exit of the virtual world where it’s in. This cube is not limited to one only. The creator will later produce more cubes with different virtual worlds within, which all can be joined together to form a really complex virtual world. Sounds familiar? Yeah, it’s definitely similar to the CubeWorld that we’ve seen before. Anyway, Julian has a plan to release it under open source project, perhaps doing so allows others to modify the software loaded on it to have more fun. [...]
