We’ve seen the wired USB extender (using network Cat 5 UTP cable) before and this time is a wireless, by Icron. It’s making use of WiFi signal to extend the footprint of USB ports over your office or house. This is very much more convenient to use. As we all know, wireless is simply much easier for installation, especially no need hacking of walls and laying cables that’d possibly mess up your work or living environment.
The ExtremeUSB WiRanger by Icron, is a four-port USB hub with a pretty big attenna that enables wireless extension of USB up to 30m via 802.11g. The radio channel is selectable to improve co-existence with deployed 802.11 networks.
The WiRanger acts as a normal hub, and is compatible all kinds of USB devices. Wireless surely will have relatively lower speed than the wired, that’s the only thing that you’ll need to tolerate.
Icron’s WiRanger reportedly works out of the box so it’s a plug and play solution for Windows and Mac.
