As a long-time Linux user both on the desktop workstation and also the servers, I shall include some news here about how the tech world is doing with it! The first is Dell! Dell just announced that it promises its desktop and laptop PC will come with Linux support.
The reason behind was Dell received more than 100,000 responses in its recent survey, and more than 70 percent of the respondents said they would want a Dell PC with Linux for both home and office use.
The survey was conducted on Dell IdeaStorm site, which ended March 23. The online research also indicated that the need for “tested and validated” Linux OS, and better hardware support and a selection of desktops and notebooks. The concern falls under the better support on the kernel and driver level, whereas showing less concern about which distribution of Linux will be offered.
To Dell, the support of Linux surely reduces the cost of its PC, furthermore will reduce software piracy. On Linux, you get to use the OpenOffice, which is the equivalent of MS Office that will save you at least hundreds of dollars for your new PC. So the new batch of desktop and laptop from Dell are expected to have Linux pre-installed.
