Everytime I get stuck in the traffic jam, I really wish that I could just push a button inside my car and make it fly over the long queue in front. Of course, this is impossible. But I’d only have to wait for 2 more years, i.e in 2009, which we’d get the kind of vehicle that we could drive on the road and also fly it in the sky. The PAL-V, a Dutch project, which is a hybrid 3-wheel vehicle that can fly as a gyrocopter and also can run on the road, like a motocycle.
When flying, the PAL-V is based on the “autogiro” concept, which allows landing practically anywhere. It’s also equiped with the Dynamic Vehicle Control (DVCâ„¢) technology, while on the road, tilting in corners is just an a piece of cake. Basically the PAL-V will have a foldable rotor fixed on the roof, a foldable propeller and also a slidable tail. It’ll have only one motor and same controls both shared for the flying and driving modes.
The height limitation for PAL-V is 4,000 feet. This is more than sufficient for me to fly over the long queue of traffic. It’s also friendly to environment, which it can run on petrol, biodiesel and also bio-ethanol. It can reach a top speed of 200 km/h for both on the road and in the sky. Some rules and regulation need to be taken in deep consideration, such as traffic control in the sky, before this thing get materialized and popular. As flying a vehicle is definitely more dangerous than driving it on the road. As there is no visual route in the sky. Collision can happen anytime.

When fantasy becomes reality. This is the new area since the Wright brothers came up with the idea of flying. Anyway, I believe that this idea will definitely made real by then. Nothing can stop the mind when it really want to achive something.
I would like to have one of this two wheel flying machine, but I guess the initial output will not be (bugs) free.

[...] It’s no joke, you aren’t back to the future! Pretty soon, you can do as what your childhood hero, Mr Superman, always does - flying in the sky. Gadgets that could fly you in the sky don’t sound new to me. But every time I heard of them, it would always let me know its release date would actually be few years or more later, such as the flying vehicle that we’ve seen before. Jetpack International is working on a turbine-powered personal jetpack, which sounds pretty promising as its release date is December 11 this year. So, it’s a only couple of months away from us, then we could experience flying in the sky. Of course, it doesn’t let you fly freely as what your super hero does. This personal jetpack’s got some limitations such as an estimated flight time of 19 minutes, with a range of 27 miles at a maximum altitude of 250 feet. The good side is it runs on cheap and easily available jet fuel. For the price, it’s definitely not cheap. It carries a price tag of $200,000, which includes training course. So, you’ve gotta be pretty rich then only your flying dream will come true. Perhaps, there might be some companies would be interested to offer renting the flying jetpack for a rate of couple of hundred dollars for few minutes. [...] Other than the PAL-V, another flying vehicle is on the way to production. But its release date is still unknown. As what I’ve said before, such a futuristic vehicle will always let us know that its release date will be at least few years from now. The company, Moller International has started the production of its flying vehicle, M200G and will be making it ready for the open market. Its price is definitely not cheap. Depends on the engine size, which will cost $90,000-$125,000. It’s claimed that the M200G can hover 10 feet off the ground and cruises at the speed of 50 mph. Its height and speed limitation are definitely too far lower than the PAL-V’s. As M200G is only a recreation device and not an aircraft, so anybody can operate it and not subject to FAA regulations. It’s a saucer-shaped device. When this thing becomes popular, I hope your granny won’t be shouting out for “UFO”, while you’re flying past her window. via [BornRich] [...]
