Flying vehicle possible in 2009

PAL-V, a flying vehicle
Everytime I get stuck in the traffic jam, I really wish that I could just push a button inside my car and make it fly over the long queue in front. Of course, this is impossible. But I’d only have to wait for 2 more years, i.e in 2009, which we’d get the kind of vehicle that we could drive on the road and also fly it in the sky. The PAL-V, a Dutch project, which is a hybrid 3-wheel vehicle that can fly as a gyrocopter and also can run on the road, like a motocycle.

When flying, the PAL-V is based on the “autogiro” concept, which allows landing practically anywhere. It’s also equiped with the Dynamic Vehicle Control (DVCâ„¢) technology, while on the road, tilting in corners is just an a piece of cake. Basically the PAL-V will have a foldable rotor fixed on the roof, a foldable propeller and also a slidable tail. It’ll have only one motor and same controls both shared for the flying and driving modes.

The height limitation for PAL-V is 4,000 feet. This is more than sufficient for me to fly over the long queue of traffic. It’s also friendly to environment, which it can run on petrol, biodiesel and also bio-ethanol. It can reach a top speed of 200 km/h for both on the road and in the sky. Some rules and regulation need to be taken in deep consideration, such as traffic control in the sky, before this thing get materialized and popular. As flying a vehicle is definitely more dangerous than driving it on the road. As there is no visual route in the sky. Collision can happen anytime.
