The Sony Ericsson W880 is nothing new here, it was out in February, but I missed to include it on this blog. I’m now posting it here, as my fiancee and I managed to catch this phone at one of the phone shops that we visited today. And it’s now in her wish list. This phone other than its walkman phone features, the most worth mention is its ultra silm form factor. When it was in my hand, it’s just like a super slim candy bar. And this is the main factor that makes itself into my fiancee’s wish list. The front panel is made of brushed aluminum, but this is something that I don’t like that much. As having the aluminium front panel makes it look pretty square overall. It measures 103 x 47 x 9.4 mm and weighs only 71 g.

Lets look at what the great features included on this phone. It’s a 3G phone so you can make video calls. It comes with a camera of 2 megalpixel, a memory card slot with hot swap functionality. As a walkman phone, surely it comes with the Walkman 2.0 music player and also Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP stereo audio profile. Which means you can also send your tunes to the new Sony’s snap-on speakers via Bluetooth, similar to its younger brother, the W660, which we’ve seen before. And it’s also equiped with the TrackID technology. Another great thing is Sony includes a 1GB Memory Stick Micro M2 with this package. Other included accessories are USB cable and a stereo headset.

The disadvantages are – It’s got no AM/FM radio. As a walkman phone, I think the traditional FM radio should be included. As you could just switch to listening to traditional radio channel, once you’re bored with those tunes loaded. Other than this, there is no infra red port, the camera has no auto-focus and the video has poor resolution, which is only 176 x 144 pixels. For data rate, you can only stick to 3G as it’s got no EDGE (Enhanced GPRS), which is too bad for those getting no 3G coverage. The Sony Ericsson W880 is available with two color variations – black and silver. The one we saw is a silver.
