The Giraffe robot designed by Headthere is a remote controlled robot for best use in the office. It moves around from cubicle to cubicle, to let you have a video conferencing session with colleagues when you’re away or located at another office. It’s about 5 foot 8 inch tall, weighs about 30 pounds and has a resolution camera with 8x zoom atop a 14 inch monitor. You can put your life face to be displayed on its monitor. This robot knows how to overcome small obstables, such as pushing doors open, but it fails to climb the stairs. It’s light enough to be easily carried up stairs.

The Giraffe is controlled remotely and wirelessly, which it needs wireless Internet connection that either you have a WiFi or a 3G Internet connection. And it’s controllable with your PC/laptop that has a broadband Internet connection and with the client software installed. It’s best use if you’re travelling or you’re the boss who is on vacation and you wish to have video conferencing with any of your colleagues or employees anytime from afar. By using your laptop/PC, you can make Giraffe to move around in your office to interact with other colleagues.
For the office workers, when you start noticing this robot wandering around in your office, then you’ve gotta be alert as that would be the spy sent by your boss that goes around to capture every scene in the office. The robot will be priced from $1800 to $3000 and will be available only sometime in 2008. If your boss is the suspicious one, they wouldn’t mind to spend that kind of money just to monitor you.

The Giraffe is a 5′8″ robot — your boss can’t exactly sneak around with it any more than he can sneak into your cubicle/office normally!
In any case, the Giraffe is good for a lot of things other than letting your boss wander around the office! For example, it can let employees stay in better touch with the office when they are traveling or at home.

[...] The IvanAnywhere robot simply reminds me the Giraffe robot that we’ve seen before. Of course, IvanAnywhere is just a simple DIY creation. The little bit more complicated part could be its software interface. Besides the computer and the camera, it’s also equipped with speakers and it features a motorized wheelbase. via [gIzMoDo] [...]
