Quantum computer! This needs the brains of both quantum mechanics and the computer engineering. Basically, it’s some kind of computer chip that was successfully created by the Canadian company, D-Wave. It’s a functional quantum computer, which is called Orion! Orion uses a chip of 16 quantum bits made out of supercooled niobium.
What’s so cool about this quantum computer? This quantum chip with its 16 quantum bits capability, able to exist in 2 to the power of 16 (65,000ish) different states at the same time. Whereas conventional computer can only exist in one state at a given time. This means if the quantum computer is given a calculation to do, there is no step at all for it to take, straight away a right answer comes out of it, zero step.
A conventional computer will need to go thru several loops of flip-flop circuits, switching between states to perform a calculation. Although today’s conventional computer can change states very rapidly with speedy clocking. A quantum computer can determine the result of a program without actually running the program. Confusing and hard to imagine? Well, it’s just like magic, taking no steps to achieve a complex task, it’s a magician!
