No! Spyke, just a big-size and clumsy robot-like gizmo, which it has no great speed and mobility of advanced robots. It cannot traverse stairs and uneven terrain! Perhaps, you can just leave it in your living room or bedroom, well as your watchdog.
But I do not like the idea of leaving this big-size, clumsy robot-like gizmo in my house, which will take up quite lot of space. Spyke is only the functions of video camera, loudspeaker, microphone, VOIP and digital music player combined into a robot-like gizmo. It’s controllable from a computer via WiFi or through Internet.
Well, some might like the idea of having it as a watchdog for your home when you are away, as its built-in camera will email you snapshots once a motion is detected. (Maybe that was your kitten). Furthermore, if you like to have VOIP chat using Skype, MSN, Google Talk with your loved one via a robot-like gizmo, then perhaps it’s not a bad idea to keep one at home.
It’s now in its prototype, by Erector, still having bugs. The prototype failed to return to its recharging dock automatically. You won’t see a release until the end of June. The Spyke would be priced around $270 (250 Euro) when launched. What do you expect for a price like that ?

[...] Still remember Spyke? The big-sized and clumsy robot, which was said to have bugs during its demo at CES 2007. The buggy version failed to return to its dock for recharging. I guess all its bugs have been fixed now as it’s available for pre order at Gizoo.co.uk. Just to refresh you what Spyke can do for you. Despite its big size, it’s got quite a number of useful functionalities such as VOIP phone, digital music player, video surveilliance, snapshot, sound and video recording etc. At least as your most loyal watchdog for your house! Spyke is controllable via Wi-Fi from your PC. The spec also says that it will return to its recharing dock once battery is low. [...]
