Only portable video formats such as H.264 or MP4 are playable on your iPod or other portable media devices. If you wanna convert your favorite DVDs using some kind of converter software, it will take at least 5 hours for a 2-hour video. If you do not mind to wait, that is the option. For those impatient will not like the idea of DIY, so they will normally buy from iTunes, but you’d have missed out some of your favorite DVDs, which you can only get from local store.
The Instant Video To-Go, only the size of a USB flash drive, contains hardware accelerators allows you to convert media to the H.264 format, which is playable on many portable media devices including the iPod video. This little gadget can do the convertion for about 20 minutes (5 times faster). It’s a must-have for those like to watch TV or movies on portable devices.

[...] We’ve seen Instant Video-To-Go before that uses the hardware solution to speed up the conversion of any video format into the only format, H.264, which is playable on iPod/iPhone. Here is another one, the Elgato Turbo 264, which is specially made as a Mac compatible USB stick, having similar functionality, coverts any video format into H.264 for your iPod, iPhone and Apple TV. The stick speeds up encoding by two up to four times the speed and takes the encoding process from the CPU to the stick so that you could work on your mac unrestricted. The stick could be used from any appilcation that uses Quicktime to export to H264 format for example iMovie HD or Elgato EyeTV. To use it with Quicktime you will need Quicktime Pro but Elgato also offers a simple application that comes with the stick to encode movies. Elgato’s Turbo 264 should be made availble in April for €99 ($132). [...]
