Tokyo's Ginza, most famous shopping area, RFID tagging

Tokyo, one of the most high-tech cities in the world. Through its new project, it seeks to wire all the people together using RFID tags, so they can make thier way around in the city’s most famous shopping area, Ginza. By using RFID technology, people (e.g tourists and shoppers) will not get missing and easily find thier directions in the area.

The project involves installing 10,000 RFID tags, infrared and wireless transmitters throughout the Tokyo’s Ginza area. The system includes a handheld device, featuring a 3.5-inch OLED touchscreen, RFID, infrared, 429MHz wireless, WiFi and Bluetooth. After nabbing location data from RFID, the handheld can look up info on the area via the Internet for helping the user with directions, store specials and restaurant menus.
